Hi,

Not exactly freeware, but I still get a lot of mileage out of the Windows CE game pack that Microsoft put out all those years ago. Unfortunately, it's the original version for CE 1.0, so all the games are in B&W, even on my MP780. (Except for the cards in Freecell and Blackjack, which are the same graphics as the cards in Solitaire, and so are in color. Go figure.) Still amazes me how many hours I can waste playing Minesweeper some times...

Not sure you can even find this any more tho....maybe E-bay.

Out here in California there's a compter/home electronics chain called Fry's which has had exactly one package of Entertainment Pack for Windows CE 2.0 sitting on the shelves in each of at least two stores for a couple of years at least. They haven't lowered the price either; it's still $40. (Surprising from a chain that normally has pretty good deals.)

Why not start by checking out the 10 or 11 games reviewed right here in the HPC Factor Reviews Section? You know upfront if those games will run on your H/PC and there are links showing you where you can download the software. Hmmmm - how convenient

I mentioned earlier that I am interested in the H/PC version of Monopoly. I noticed that it was still available on at least a couple of sites just a few months ago. But now I can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it gone for good?

Has anyone installed games originally purchased for a Pocket PC (Strong Arm/Xscale) onto their HPC?

I am wondering if the applications will show up on half the screen or if something funky will take place.

Thanks!

Why not find a NES emulator and get the Monopoly Rom from somewhere?

Thats what I did for my Pocket PC.

Well, not quite the same thing, but I tried installing my Pocket PC version of Monopoly on my MP790 (since PocketGear as well as the packaging claim that it works on CE 3.0 and above Pocket PCs) in hopes that I could use WinWatch to move the board around. This has worked on several other apps, but it didn't work this time - I just got an error message saying that it could not find the application. (I got the same message whether I installed the game on the CF card or in RAM. I also tried both installation methods - Setup.exe and [MIPS] CAB file method - but still got the same message. Clicking on the app icon itself also didn't work; the icon was the Windows logo, suggesting that the system did not recognize the file.)

However, I do have good news. I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to - no, wait, wrong good news. Having previously searched extensively on the Web for a vendor who might still have Monopoly for Windows CE 2, in desperation I finally e-mailed one vendor who showed it as out of stock, asking if there is any chance of more of the game coming in. The vendor e-mailed me back the next day, saying that they have exactly one, in an open box. They say they'll sell it to me for $10 plus shipping. I'm waiting for confirmation from them that it is compatible with some or all of my CE devices, since the vendor says that it won't work with every device. (I don't expect that to be a problem.) So maybe, just maybe, I'll be getting the last copy on Earth of Monopoly for Windows CE 2.

EDIT: 100th post!

There are several blackjack games out there. A couple of examples: BFM Casino (shareware; www.bfmsoft.com/download.htm; there are actually no game limitations except one's own guilt feelings; graphics are decent and sound is good) and Peter's Casino (freeware, available on several sites - Tucows, Pocket PC City, hpc.net, and others; has the same interface for both H/PC and Palm-size PC, so it doesn't take up the whole H/PC screen; however, the graphics are pretty good).

I could be wrong, but I don't think either of those is available in a StrongARM version, therefore you won't be able to run them on a MP 900/900c or HP 720/728.

If I'm wrong about this please let me know!

Ce Geek and John,

Many thanks for the www.bfmsoft.com/download.htm link. Peter's Casino does work on my J-720, but its BlackJack isn't up to real life (no doubling down, etc.)

I'll give the bfm a whirl and report back with news on whether it runs on ARM.

I've also gotten hold of WizardWorks' Casino Pack (US $6 on eBay, including S & H), which is a pretty good emulation of Vegas casino games - the graphics are good & the rules are consistent with Vegas. (I was getting tired of not being able to double down and/or surrender in other CE blackjack games.)

This one is the only one I've found that includes split, double-down, and surrender options. But I've never seen it anywhere available for download. I also haven't seen it on eBay recently. However, with luck maybe one will turn up again.

Actually, I have to revise my favorites list now that I have an H/PC 2000 device. I've been playing some classic arcade games from my college days (Frogger, Carnival, Klax, Rally-X, Galaga, Missile Command, Berzerk) since I got MAMECE3.0 v9.5. Graphics are great, but there may be some compatibility problems with the ROMs. They do play a little slow, and the sound is terrible (not surprisingly, the graphics flow better with sound disabled); moreover, a few other games that I've tried don't work at all.
