I am really interested in having an offline copy of Wikipedia on my Jornada 720. I have a 2.2 GB microdrive, so size shouldn't be too much of a restriction. I found a copy available in Tomeraider format, but have been unable to find a non-PPC reader for this format. I also see that there are a couple scripts in various language for converting Wikipedia to static HTML. These scripts all seem to require you to download the wikipedia database and set up a fairly complex hosting environment. Any thoughts?

Yeah, works fine once you get past the initial funny menu. I haven't tested it with the TR3 version of wikipedia, but have tested it with some smaller files. The html copy of wikipedia that I got on there took like 10 hours to copy over, and I am going on a trip in about 2, so I am going to leave well enough alone until I get back. Great work hacking yet another neat application for HPCs!

You can buy TomeRaider and with a Editor Hexadecimal modify the tomeraider.exe
This feature works withe other PPC software. With ExecutabilityCheck you can watch the necessary Dlls for every program.

There are a lot of Editor hexadecimal freeware for PC, I use this:

http://descargas.terra.es/informacion_extendida.phtml?n_id=14577&plat=1

Open with it the file tomeraider3.exe and at the right of the screen you have to find the mfcce300.dll, change 0 by 1 to show mfcce301.dll
Use SAVE AS tomeraider3.exe (very important add .EXE)
Ready to run on HPC.

I downloaded the complete Wikipedia with images in tomeraider format. Very useful and complete.

The spanish Wikipedia 50000 entries:
http://wikipedia.pdaexpertos.com/

The english Wikipedia 1.000.000 entries:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:TomeRaider_database_-_download_instructions

It´s a wondeful encyclopedia.

just fyi, i think it is much easier and a cleaner way to directly hexedit the cab file. no need to copy the exe back to the PC, no need to check for additional executables (dll's). just do the cab and install it and voila

While I have long had a T2 copy of Wikipedia on my desktop, I never tried to use it with my MobilePro until I saw this tread.

The good news is that I was able to download a new T3 copy of Wikipedia and open it with cmonex's hack. The bad news is that I cannot see or use the 'Subject Lookup Screen' -- and without it, a reference as large as Wikipedia is almost unusable.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any settings I am missing?

I am using a MobilePro '890' - an 880 upgraded with a 790 ROM (HPC2000).

Thanks,

Is there any way to use WikiPedia without using Tomeraider? I prefer free/open-source software (and pay software is difficult to get in the UK for Pocket/HandheldPC's). Sigh, not fair being a student.
