I'm too cheap to buy commercial ones.
I tried Avery printable transparencies but they degrade easily and you have to wash off the printable substrate before you can apply them. Having said that, at about 15 cents each they are cheap.

So what do you use? What other homebrew screen condoms are worth a try ?

Ceramwrap is actually very effective. It seems to last long enough, and takes the hit from my stylus very well, with no damage to the screen, which is surprising considering how thin it is. I have very cheap stuff, but the gladware ceramwrap must be awesome. Only problem is getting it on right, you will have to use tape. I did a messy 30 second job of it, but if I took my time and cut the wrap and tape well, it would look okay. Personally, on my old hpc I never got any scratches because the stylus was never damaged. Unfortuately the guy that I got my 720 on ebay from apparently wasn't very gentle with his writing. But I am definitely open to other solutions, as it looks like it will be a while until I get everything I want for my hpc. (only about $60 more!!!)

I'm new here I've had a 770 MP for about 5 years.
To protect the screen I buy exessively packaged pencil leads or whatever [at places like Costco] that come in the clear bullet-proof shop-lifter-proof flat formed plastic packages when I need a new screen protector.
The good ones that don't scratch easily and aren't purplish.
I cut out a curved edge piece 1/4 inch larger than the screen and then just slip it in.
It's still touch sensitive and a cheap tidy way to protect the screen.

I bought the Jornada 720 screen protectors from Expansys for my 680e. Not only are they somewhat expensive (like $2.50 each), the material also doesn't quite seem to have been made for this express purpose. My impression of them is in this thread:

Given that these seem to be some sort of clear cling vinyl, I've come to wonder if anyone's tried any of these sorts of things:

Are they too sticky for dragging stylus across the screen?
Also they seem a bit thick, but maybe that's just the ones I've seen.

They are stickier than the actual screen. But, oddly, this seems to actually improve the stylus dragging. Solitaire is a great test. I find the cards are less likely to release during a move from one stack to another. Same goes for file dragging.

While I'd prefer the Expansys screen protectors to be thinner from a viewing perspective, I'm glad they're thickier for the protection given to the somewhat fragile screen. I just wish they didn't scratch up so easily. If they also had an anti-glare coating it'd be nice too.
