This problem just appeared tonight out of the blue. I had been working in CE Agenda, then turned the Aero off for 15 minutes or so. When I turned it back on, there were vertical lines all across the bottom 1/2 of the screen. The Aero still works fine, and I can see (somewhat) through the lines, but of course I'd like to get rid of them. I tried both a soft boot and removing the battery, to no avail (I didn't think they'd help, but I had to try).

Any thoughts on what would cause the lines? Is it a screen problem, or something else? Any help would be appreciated.

Mark

probably faulty screen cable ((
but you can hope for a simple connection problem.
take it apart and look at it......

oh and a glimpse of hope. one of my friends had an Aero 8000, which didn't work 1 year ago. screen was all lines, not just the bottom 1/2.
now recently he found it again (actually i made him remember..), turned it on and voilá it worked!!! still working. he even sold it...

interesting...

Thanks, cmonex. I'll open 'er up next week when I have some time, and let you know what I find.

I'm hoping it's just a loose connection...replacing the Aero would be difficult right now, and my only other option is my 7+pound Dell laptop...ugh...

Well, I opened up the Aero last night and didn't find any obviously loose connections. I will admit to being a novice with hardware issues; I've replaced a couple hard drives, but that's about it. I'm going to contact a friend who works a lot with electronics to see if he'll take a look.

It was the cable. My friend (who is a lot less squeamish than I about poking around computer innards) has a spare Aero he purchased for parts, and he swapped out my bad cable for a good one. No more vertical lines.

Thanks for the encouragement, Cmonex.
