Letters with Accent in Mobile Pro 770

Hello,

I'm trying to write letters with accent (like áéêçà) in Pocket Word on a NEC MP770, but it doesn't working. I've tried changing "Regional Settings" to "Portuguese Brazilian", my native language, but no success. I've also tried changing "Keyboard Layout" to International (English) instead of "United States" in "MobilePro Settings" on Control Panel, but no success again. Is this a general problem on HPC Pro 2.11 systems?!

In HPC 2000 (J720), I can normally use letters with accent, even with Regional Settings set to "English".

Any help on this subject is very appreciated!

Did you try using the alt-number method? Like alt-0425 is é if I recall correctly...It's been a while.

Or, you could just consult the Character Map on a Windows desktop if you have access to one.

regional settings doesn't really affect the keyboard layout.
you can use a localization program for the keyboard. that's what i do. (i use language extender lite but there are other apps too)

Thanks for the help! I was already using this ALT-xxxx method, but this is good only for occasional typing, not a solution for daily usage. One in every 3 or 4 words in portuguese have accents, and super common words like "is/are" (é/são) have accents.

So, is this a real limitation/bug of HPC Pro 2.11 or is a configuration problem ?!

cmonex, hpcpro, and others whose native language have accents, any tips ?!

as i said, get a keyboard localization software.
again, i use language extender lite. or maybe you'd like artskey. i prefer language extender
oh and i'm sure you would love it on the jornada 720 too, much easier than to use altgr combinations... with language extender lite, you get the advantage that you need to use only one key for each accented character. very comfortable!!
(get the hpc pro version only even for the jornada 720, it will allow you to change the layout provided by them while hpc2000 version won't)

btw it is not a bug in HPC Pro... HP provided you with the AltGr combinations on international versions of jornadas. NEC probably never paid attention to this.

Thanks cmonex! I've tried Language Extender, it sort of work, but it doesn't have a version for portuguese, and isn't exactly what I want. And I don't have money to spend on this

I don't want/need to create super AltGr/Alt/Shift combos, I just want to be able to press ' and then "a", and get á, or ~ then "a" and get ã, like I can do with any normal english keyboard in the world, in any Operating System that I'm aware of, be it DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 9x/2000/XP, Linux, MacOS... This works in my J720, I don't need strange AltGr combinations, just hit ' and then "e" and I get é.

I still don't believe that this can't be done natively without 3rd party apps

language extender: as i said you can change the layout... doesn't that help?

well it looks like artskey does have a portuguese version. (?) it isn't free either though
