There's been interesting speculation over at OESF regarding what Sharp's next move in the zaurus world would be. The current top of the line has a 4gb microdrive, vga screen, usable-ish keyboard and runs an excellent version of linux, but is bereft of wifi or bluetooth.

The SL-6000 is a portrait aspect device with a 4" screen, and all the clamshells have had a 3.7" screen... So people would like to see a 4" screen in a clamshell with wifi and/or bluetooth.

What has been announced today?

A windows Mobile 5 device, looking exceptionally like the bsquare power handheld!

To say that some of the linux community is a tad concerned is an understatement; it appears to be MS's way of cracking the Japanese market, and I personally hope that it'll mean there's two divergent product lines from Sharp: the Zaurus and the W-Zero range.

We can but hope it isn't the end for the Zeeeee!

Cheers,
Nick.

hm if it were core CE 5 (or if only the hpc platform would be back) i would be all over it.

WM5? linux? none of them appeals to me. but i would be sorry if it meant the end of the linux zauruses. at least linux supports native VGA. and we need a little variety. not just WM5 in every pda, please
