I've tried using the WPC11 following both the instructions here and at cewindows.com, with to no avail (v3 of the card). Has anyone gotten it working with the workpad, or can anyone recommend a different wireless card?

I still use my Z50 regularly.

The only WiFi success I've had with it is using my Socket Wifi CF card (www.socketcom.com) with the CE2.11 drivers available on their website.

Warning: web browsing is still painfully slow compared to my Axim PPC using the same setup.

(Email is pretty quick though)

Good Luck ...

pdango,

I've dropped you a PM with some internal driver links in. If you could let me know if either of them work. I will get the correct one up on the site for other users.

Thanks

so, mild success has been achieved with the drivers (wpc11 and a linksys wireless router, both linksys' official drivers, and the compaq drivers, but windows ce doesn't want to network nicely. I CAN see the router config. page, but I'm unable to access the internet, for some reason the workpad doesn't want to obtain, or the router doesn't want to give an ip address via dhcp. I'm no networking genius, so any ideas?

I'm confused.
Usually router config pages are on the IP address of the gateway, 192.168.1.1 for example.
If this is the case with your setup, then you wouldn't be able to access it without an IP. What does vxUtil say on the subject?
vxUtil review

I'm still looking to hear how those two driver files went.

I dont know much about wirless networking i use a wired ethernet connection, but i know if you cant obtain an ip addy via dhcp, you can allways manully insert an avalible ip for your z50 for instance my computer, is .100, my roomates is .101. and my aero is .102 ........I have a lynksys router my self..i use a socket lpe and with out its configureration software, you can get it going, but its a nightmare when you dont know what your doing, i remeber that when i first got it....Steve

C-Amie: the drivers you gave me "work" as well as the linksys drivers do, as I'll explain in just a second.

Anyways, I did a hard reset to clear everything, reinstalled the linksys drivers and vxutil, then it became even more confusing.

Using pocket ie, I can access the router config page (192.168.1.1), and change to different pages. And, using the linksys config utility, I can see that I do have a strong signal. HOWEVER, using vxutil, I can't ping the router, the pings always time out. And when I try to go to a different webpage other than 192.168.1.1, Windows CE Networking gives me a message telling me that an ip address cannot be recieved from the dhcp server (only have gotten the error the first time i tried, but still can't connect to the internet)

Any further ideas?

Which of the two files worked? Both?

This sounds like a DNS issue over anything else. Chances are your router is one of these new trendy "lets truncate the DHCP lease info with some branding" school.
When it comes to networking, I'm a wired user. However Clint around here is of a WiFi higher-order. I'm sure if he's about he can take you to the next troubleshooting step.

Hi, I am having similar problems.

I have an IBM z50 with a 16 bit Netgear MA401 card. I am using the Linksys WPC11 driver with it. The driver recognises the card (or vice versa) and I can configure it to connect to my wireless network (infrastructure mode, 128 bit encrypted) with good signal strength. This works _only_ after a soft reset when I get the "card detected in slot" dialogue.

I do not get an IP address. I am using a Netgear WiFi (.11a) router.

With DHCP enabled my router shows the z50 (with network ID "Host1" as attached (and having an IP address) very briefly but this disappears as an attached device within seconds. The z50 network utilities (MS PowerToys) do not show the z50 as having an IP address and I get a DHCP failure dialogue.

When the z50 suspends, on resuming WinCE the card is not active.
I have tried setting the networking manually (IP Address, Gateways, DNS) but this did not work at all.

I dug my z50 out after years of neglect to see if VNC would give it a new lease of life and would be grateful to hear of a resolution to our joint problem.

Are you sure the MA401 works?
http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/h/0020.asp

I have a LPE that starts gets an ip and promptly drops out.

OK, update - I did a hard reset and installed the Compaq WL100 driver (not Linksys) and it works. I then installed the SP1 patch, IE 128bit upgrade and Power Toys - when I tried to use the powertoys networking utilities, the DHCP error showed and I lost networking until I performed a soft reset...

Now trying to get VNC Viewer version 3.3.2beta working with a server on Win2K but that's almost certainly a different forum

Hello, my name is graham. I have a z50 with a linksys wpc11 v3 and a linksys router and i have been trying as well to get my z50 on the network.

I got the v3 drivers on the z50 and WEP codes,etc...are in and the linksys WCF11 Config Utility says i get 100% signal strength, but the DHCP is not able to assign it an ip address. I have manually entered one in as well, but it still doesn't connect.

Is there something i am missing? I tried doing the compaq cracks and that didn't work with success?

Also would updating the core for 2.11 help any?

Graham

The only way i get some network activity in the card is to use the original linksys drivers.

The error i get is that the DHCP cannot get an ip address from the linksys 4-port switch/router

Is there an advantage for filling in the IP Address/DNS/etc... and if so what would we use for the WINS?
