How do I reach comp.os.msdos? I have been able to reach the microsoft server, but not comp.os...

You need to use your ISP's NNTP server to get onto it.

As Chris says, you need to use an NNTP server that carries 'em.

Microsoft only carry the microsoft.* newsgroups, so use your ISPs, or alternatively one of the open servers around the globe.

groups.google.com gives you a web access onto pretty much every group.
