Anyone have any ideas for a hinge that's too tight? I just disassembled the whole screen case of my newly-acquired 720 and the hinges are still so tight it won't close completely.

When you say that the hinge doesn't close properly, by how much isn't it closing?

I would probably reckon that you hadn't got the thing clamped together properly along the back of the battery compartment and up into the notification LED.

It can be incredibly fiddly to do and isn't always noticeable that bits aren't in correctly.

Pull the to pieces completely and put it back together again, ensuring that the hinges are in the correct way around and aren't interferating with the screen loom.

I think it's in the actual spring of the hinge; when all the screws were out and the screen bezel in two pieces the bar itself was still stiff. I just couldn't see any way to adjust that... I may send it back rather than attempt another scary disassembly!

I have done some partial (and blurry) pics of part of the process, but not the part you want . if i can find more time through the weekend, i *might* complete the tutorial.

Yeah, that's it. Sounds like you have the opposite problem. One mine there is one screw that attaches to the hinge, and one empty screw hole. If I loosen the screw it will "flop down" and close, but that's not what it should do. It seems to be the tension of the hinge itself.

I hope this helps anyone who may have a screw loose. ;+)

wow happy to hear it has been solved!!! may help a friend of mine too...

Thanks... me too! As was suggested, I'm keeping on eye out for the symptoms to reappear in case it's more serious. That problem was sporadic enough for me to not be certain. Fortunately, I'm able to open and close without problems, now.

ah, how do you mean you can open and close without problems? opening the J physically?

I actually have created a video tutorial on opening the 700 series. It hasn't got a voice over yet though. I did it in the summer

Sorry, I meant opening the clamshell, not the case or the software. (Though I am successful at those operations, too.)

[Edit: removed excessive quoting.]
