Screen problems on HP 680e

I have a Jornada 680e. All over sudden the screen doesn't come on anymore. The backlight lights up, but that's it. I tried a soft and a hard reset, but no luck.
Ideas anyone?

The things you should try that come to my mind in this moment are

A) open it (the lower part) and check the screen connector of the motherboard
B) open it further (the screen casing) and check the video connector in the screen

Edit: haven't read about the hard-reset.

hum, i bought a dead J720 for 12$ and it has the same problem. we've tested the screen cable, and it is fine.
what else can it be, any ideas?
