Hi all,

Wonder if anyone had any success with display and input of Chinese (Big5) in wince?

I decided to stop trying untested apps after one hung up my MP790 and I had to do a hard reset while another loaded its own keyboard driver and my keyboard became useless.

Anyone?

I haven't tried any of them, but register at www.pocketpc.com.hk, and then take a look at this thread:
http://www.pocketpc.com.hk/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=998

All the software in that thread have Handheld PC versions, and all have free trials for download. But that also means all cost money for full version. But hey you wouldn't trust a freeware to do something like that to your system

I guess I'll try it one of these days.

Oh and if you don't have access to a system that can read Chinese (so you can't read that website), I can at least give you the links to the software.

btw, my username at that site is 德仔

Update:
I tried the Gismosoft Chinese (巨斧)
Worked very well. I can see the Chinese words in IE, File Explorer, and MediaPlayer (so I can read the song titles!).

Typing is easy too. You can choose which input method to install. I use ChangJie (倉頡) and it worked nicely. No word suggestion features tho.

The only problem I see so far is probably a limitation of the system. In the file system, all chinese words are considered the same. So for example you cannot have two filenames, each with 4 Chinese words (and no other characters), even if the words are different; the system will complain that the same filename already exists.

I'll experiment with it more and update this if necessary

I don't think you can get it anymore - Gismosoft seems to be dead now
And it isn't compatible with j680 anyway, I think, because the setup only creates ARM and MIPS cab files in the ActiveSync folder.

There's also Maction Monster Chinese, but again it requires HPC2000 and only creates ARM and MIPS cab files. That one is still on sale though.

For Chinese display, try CEStar 2.0.
It is an easy to use Chinese character viewer, and I think it
comes with Hz-Coder and PenPower chinese input softwares
too.

Just google for the aforementioned software and check your compatibility and how to obtain etc.

Some answers are easier to find on Google than on the forums. (gee I think this is my new original signature)
