I have a Jornada 680 (e). Its running Linux from compact flash. I've heard that compact flash cards tend to break if used too much. Then I heard of Microdrives, which apparantly do not suffer this problem.
The new problem is that microdrives all seemt to be typeII. The Jornada only has a CF I slot. My question: is the only difference between types I and II the size of the card? If it is, would taking the back off the little popup slot thing allow me to use one?
I think what you're trying to do will be a bit harder than the j720 mod. the reason is that in the j720, the cf slot, when in normal position, accepts the cards "upside down". i mean, if you get a card, the brand & capacity sticker
(anverse
) will be looking to the bottom, whereas the writable & copyright info sticker
(reverse
) will be facing upside.
the type II CF cards are wider than the type I at expense of the anverse side, that means that the protuding part in the j720 is the lower part of the card, whereas, the CF slot in the 680 gets the card in exactly the opposite direction. i don't know it it was well explained, so i'll post a drawing to illustrate it
