| Hello. Was wondering if anyone here has used OpenOffice (on Windows XP ). Is it any good? Is it compatable with the Microsoft Office XP (and past versions )?
I'm still using Word 6 , and dont want to pay for MS Office
Thanks in advance |

| I use it and am well pleased with it. So far it's compatible with my MS Office files but I haven't tried to move any really complex documents over. I'd say give it a try, you can't beat the price. |

| I'm getting another laptop and instead of going through all the bother of installing my Office 2000 cd and getting all the updates and service packs installed, which is easily a 2-day chore, I'm thinking of downloading the latest version of Open Office.
Is it really compatible with PowerPoint files? Because that is my main concern with the new laptop. |

| Its download as we speak. Nice to see a proper project allowing a bittorrent version of its software |

I hate all of those updates... Office 2003 is worse... |

I'm not big on PowerPoint. The only thing I've ever done is a fairly simple college project with OO's PowerPoint-alike program. The instructor didn't have any trouble with the file, but again it wasn't anything major, just a few pages with bullet points and graphics. |

| I don't know, I prefer Abiword. For some reason, OpenOffice works equivalently to mozilla for me...takes too long to load, way too many resources, and really isn't that great.
Abiword is more like Netscape 7.2 |

| No problem. Do a google on Portable CE and it will give you instructions on how to install the CE 5 device emulator to a Memory Stick. It worked great for me .
Also, if you really want to, do a Google on Portable CE 2.0 for installing a Windows Mobile 2003 emulator (which happens to run ARM cabs! ) to again to a memory stick...
