No, I didn't mispost. This info is useful to fellow Canucks.

Futureshop has an external 4gb USB microdrive on sale, that after rebate, is $80US. The cheapest I found a 4gb MD on ebay was $120US, so I figure this is a pretty good deal.

Buy the unit, carefully open the housing and extract the 4gb CF MD. Viola, mass storage on the cheap for your hpc. I only wish my digicam was CF, not SD. Oh well.

Best hurry, I think stock is limited to on-hand supplies. I cleaned out my local store, lol.

Oh, shipping is free to boot.

Sure you couldn't make an exception and sell it to me? It would definitely help the 720 distro.

EDIT: Wait a minute. I cannot trust that post unless if you have done it successfully yourself. Many drives like that are configured to only work in IDE mode, not as a standard storage device, to prevent people from doing just that: taking the drive out. Do you know if it is just normal?

Excellent. I wouldn't mind saving a few dollars for a much larger card than I would buy normally. But I need a confirmation that it is indeed standard!

I do not have that kind of money to waste.

Good luck - but be prepared for the worst. Lots of manufacturers have been buying OEM microdrives that are permanently locked in IDE mode, and won't work in a WinCE device or digital camera.

even in the worst case (MD is in ide mode), you could put it back in the case and use it as an external drive in the HPCs that have a USB host

btrimmer - I already mentioned the IDE problem...

There is actually a chance that it is just a cf to usb enclosure.

Geez, I forgot all about it. They're both sitting in my hpc bag. I've been a little busy of late buying more junk to learn and fiddle with.

Ok, so it got one in front of me with my exacto knife ready. Let's see if I can open it without destroying things.

That didn't go too well.

I opened up my hand with the exacto instead of the drive housing. I shouldn't have tried this when I was tired.

I fixed up the cut with good old crazy glue.

I'll try again tomorrow, I still have one good hand remaining. If I mess up, I'm outta hands for awhile.
