Help with PC Link

Hope someone can help me. I was just given a HP 360LX, a think it's a very cool little device that I can put to good use. However I can not get it to establish a partnership with my Laptop running XP Pro using the serial cable. I've tried several different com port settings, but so far nothing has worked. Also note that I'm running on batteries, I don't have a AC adapter yet. PC Link tries 4 time , than fails

I feel soooo dumb, I installed Active Sync and all is OK it's not state-of-the-arts technology but it's nice little device, I like it much better than my Palm Pilot , Thanks for your help !!
