Also, I was wondering if there were any GPS cards that are compatible with the J680?

I don't know of any PCMCIA cards, however there are a number of GPS locators listed in the HCL. Most of which rely on a gender bender for the serial port.

Ultimatly the use of any GPS device is govourned by the mapping software. Anythign else is roughly stanardised.

I'm pretty sure that would be illegal where I live. It's the sort of technology that MI5 / MI6 have, not the general population.
Just think of the ramifications of it in the hands of malcontents... or worse.

Although I did read something a while back about a trial of a similar system in the USA - Califonia to be exact. It involved microchipping the kids specifically not cell phones.
& IMHO there's a human rights issue in that and all.

All that said, I'm sure there is a budding developer out there who could come up with a way to write a software program that e-mails / SMS's you the GPS coorinates every 30 min say from the phone. You can then just use a mapping program to look up the location.

cecrowder, see the thread "Will any CompactFlash GPS work?" I mention there two CompactFlash cards I found that are said to support WinCE 2.x. Frankly, I suspect that any CF card which simulates a serial port will work, but I don't know if that's true. What I'd really like, but it's probably not compatible with WinCE 2.x (it's definitely not officially compatible), and also pretty expensive, is the SysOnChip GPS with 512MB of storage. That's a great combo GPS.

As for mobile phones and GPS, even without a built-in GPS, the cell the phone is connected to can give a decent indication of where it is (although not with the accuracy of a GPS). On modern phones (such as Nokia Series 60 phones) it's possible to run a program that will query the cell information and record or send it. The phone service provider can probably know this information without such a program. Here in Israel there was a service advertised for elderly people (who are in danger of suffering a stroke or whatever other problem) to allow them to be located using their phone.

I don't think this supports J680, but it supports other Jornadas... There is a Pocket PC utility for other SH3 Pocket PC though.
