Watch out, my folks have wifi

I finally got around to setting up wifi for my parents who live in the GTA. Till now they've been wired into their computer room if they want to chat or browse.

My Dads mobility will be reduced for awhile so I gave him my Point tablet to use until he gets better. So far he likes the idea of printing instead of typing and having such a small unit with a big clear screen to work with. And being able to move slowly around his house with it.

He wasn't too keen on the Intermec keyboard nor the MP790 display size. Perhaps when he's much better the idea of a proper hpc might appeal more to him.

This was another job that went off without a hitch. The Belkin router (I admit the more experience I have with them the more I like them, even the low end simplistic G model) installed and connected fine, dhcp is working, the wifi range and stability is pretty darn good if I do say so, the desktops are happy. My Dads wife really likes the sleek look of the Belkin over the clunky angular Barricade router I removed. (Yeah, I know, who cares what it looks like provided it works)

All in all the way I like things to go.

Great news. I am glad you have been able to get him to use it! Did you set up the same king of security?

His security is good, 128 bit wep, macfilters, some simple logging . I couldn't find any other APs, open or closed in his hood, so he's about as locked down as needed.

It if funny to me b/c you are so security minded and my home connection is down so I am useing the people who live next to me to send this message... ha ha ha thank goodness for them I am a nice guy...

I remember that quote, but I missed the part about the horse porn. Don't want to know what that looks like.

PS, at first i thought you said a quote from yoldering. BTW I am on the 790 now and there is nothing to do with horses on it

Heh, I should find whatever the site was that had the quote on it again. I think the guy was a college student, and it was people in the other dorms. Whatever.
