Is it possible to get a gamepad to work with an hp/c? I have a j720 and nec 880...would be ultra cool if possible but likely a way to waste a whole lot of time!

Gosh! I never thought I would hang out here long enough to turn a hundred! I don't feel a day over 45

Thanks for all the help. I just "won" an nec 880 on ebay after months of agonizing over the decision. I will probably not be able to get it until after Christmas...I can't wait!

You can go here to see what I mean by a gamepad http://www.maplin.co.uk/Free_UK_Delivery/PC_USB_Gamepad_36985/PC_USB_Gamepad_36985.htm
though some of them are still serial.

Sorry for not paying more attention to the date on the post. Yes, it is older...yes, I did notice that it is in Japan but Japan - and most other countries - seem to be a year or 2 ahead of the U.S. when it comes to new kinds of cell phones and technologies. I am hoping that it portrays things to come in the U.S. What got me excited is the fact that it is POSSIBLE to have 3G on 3.0 so, I presume, that it is very likely to be able to have it on 2000, or newer. It means that there are still some manufacturers out there that are willing to write drivers for new products to make older machines work.

Looks like you're responding to two threads in one message. Now that's efficient. (Oh, and I won't know about not feeling a day over 45 for two more days. )

(Gotta cut in here, BTW, for a short off-topic message to this thread's mod: Happy birthday, cmonex! )

...continuing the off-topic theme, happy birthday

I can't think of an easy way to interface a gamepad with the HPC, unless you're into serious hardware hacking. My best thought would be to do some hackery to bring out lines from the keyboard in order that you can simulate keypresses with the gamepad, but that's quite extreme!

Of course the uber-geek way of doing it would be to create a clip-on panel which sits over the keyboard and gives you all the game pad functions while actually being part of the device.

It's just a tray icon and a key remap then.

C:Amie,

you are the greatest man. if this really works (i mean if it were seriously implemented), it would be awesome.

man...i really want something like that....

please allow me to resize it and use it as my avatar...

but why are the buttons tilted like that? they should be the same angle as the directional pad...

http://www.jamesbrief.com/i/blog/ps3c.jpg

can you fix it and re-post it?

msafi,

Being the consumate professional that I am, naturally I considered the practical implications of such a device. In that the buttons would have to be in line with the actual keys.

There is no way to position the right hand button set in a + shape and actually have it touching keys. You can use 3 W E S for the directional pad on the left hand side though.

I didn't keep the master I'm afraid. I just started with the envelope from my bank statement, cut out two crosses for fit over 3 W E S and moved the second one around. The screen, and the paper cut outs have been photoshopped of course.

C:Amie,

i don't think this can work by touching the jornada's keys. i was thinking that there should be small sockets between the jornada's keys to which you can plug the two pads. it shouldn't rely on the jornada's buttons; it should be electronically connected through those sockets.

u know what i mean?

I hear what you're saying... but I'm not prepared to start drilling holes in, or start re-writing my 720's keyboard to do it - plus such a system could never easily be a commercial product as you would have to no only sell the gadget, but also a new keybaord... and there are several different Jornada keyboard derivatives to consider also.

My graphic lacks start / pause buttons also.
