| Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the default hpstart.bmp file located in the windows folder on my Jornada 720. I want to use the HP Security feature with a custom background. I am setting up a couple of Jornadas for my two sons for Christmas. Is this possible and how do i go about doing it. I would appreciate a prompt response please as I have to have these set up for the end of the week.
Many thanks

| Use ActiveSync's file explorer to over-write the associated file with a new BMP. Avoid using a 24-bit bitmap though if your image experience allows for it. |

| I have already tried that and I get an error message stating that the file is stored in rom and cannot be overwritten. I have tried changing the file properties and unticking the read only box but still does not allow it to be overwritten. I suspect this may well require a registry hack which I will require help with.
Thanks

doesn't renaming the file help? (then copying the new file there ) |

| cmonex, the source file is in ROM
spymaster, this doesn't require a registry hack. ActiveSync file from my PC to the H/PC works fine here.
Ensure that you have killed everything off on the H/PC and don't have any explorer windows open.
EDIT: Thus: (hpstart.gif) Attachments ---------------- hpstart.gif (9KB - 4 downloads) |

i'm perfectly aware of that
but if it doesn't allow you to overwrite it, it should let you rename it and then you can copy the new file there... then after a soft reset you can "delete" the original. |

| er... what
You can't rename files in ROM, any more than you can delete them. |

you can "rename"... just try it... even if the file is in use (i.e. loaded into ram ), you can usually do this trick... |

| Loaded into / stored in RAM yes. But this is a ROM file and isn't loaded.
Try and replace it on the device and you'll explorer will report the presence of the protected ROM flag and fail the copy. ActiveSync on the other hand will suppliment the file into the filing system, as will ceload. |
