| I've heard of some sort of mobilepro 780 hardware upgrade. if such an upgrade exists i have a few questions.
1: what is it called
2: what does it do
3: is it also compatible with a mobilepro 790

| I think what you may be referring to is the practise of installing a MobilePro 790 ROM chip in the 780 - what some call a "MP785"
It isn't official, but it does work (though you lose access to the NAND area.
It installs HPC2000 on the 780. |

I think an ROM upgrade was offered once, but it's pretty much impossible to find one now.
Your best bet is to bid on an old junker 790 on eBay and switch the ROM chip or better yet just buy a working 790 and sell your 780.
Either method is probably cheaper and easier than finding someone willing to sell you the 790 ROM chip. |

| Figure that a used 780 goes for about $80-$100, and a used 790 goes for about $120-$150. Figure that you see 790 rom chips sell for about $45. You'd be better off to sell your 780 and buy a 790 so you can have the 14 mb of useable non-volitile flash ram.
Of course I would wait to sell the 780 until I made sure that I had the nicest case and screen of the two...which might mean some parts swapping....

| I agree with the majority. Buy a 790 and sell the 780. You'll be happier/healthier in the long run.
I still can't convince my 790 to release the stranglehold on the ROM. I'll never know the thrills I could enjoy behind the keyboard of an 890  |

| hey well for me the only solution is to get a rom.. can't imagine myself selling stuff on ebay without a decent paypal account (not just send only as the current one  ). everyone hates WU and the like.  and i wouldn't get too much for the 780 in hungary..

well ive been trying to do that. ive even posted on hpcbay but nobody's interested. Ive been considering selling it to some sucker around here my hometown but luck is giving me the cold shoulder. any suggestions?
