I have my Hitachi HPW 600-ETM in pretty good shape.

It now has -
a small attachable keyboard
a Wi-Fi card
a Socket LP-E Ethernet card

through the USB port -
a floppy disk drive
card reader for CF cards

VGA-out, working on this situation with trying to track down a Hitachi parts/accessory seller who has the cable in stock

I'm not interested in games.

So, what next for this little sweetheart of a tablet handheld device???

That's a very pretty machine. How about a compact optical USB mouse? I bought a nice Logitech for $10 for my usb enabled hpcs. I'm now freed from the stylus, if I desire.

That's a great idea - a Logitech USB compact optical mouse, right?

Wally - I see in your signature - "defective Toshiba E740." I was browsing those PocketPCs on Ebay. I like many of the features, such as the E740 takes CF cards and also the built-in wi-fi.

Did you have specific problems with the Toshiba E740?

Yep, a nice little Logitech usb optical mouse makes a great accessory.

Avoid 740s at all costs. They are the most unreliable, unpredictable and troublesome device I've ever owned. One had the white screen of death, another had the battery contacts retract into the chassis, one had a battery latch that didn't, one hard reset every time it was cradled. Those are the defects I can remember. I still get a bad taste in my mouth when I think about it.

It's no wonder Toshiba abandoned the PDA market in NA. The 75x series has a better record. It was outsourced to a different firm.

Thanks for the advice, Wally. It's difficult, because I want a PocketPC with 64mb RAM or greater and PocketPC2002 or greater - and also one that has a slot for CF cards. I don't know many other models - except for the Jornada 568.

yah the e740 is a very bad model. hard resets are not uncommon.

CF slot and 64+ mb ram? the vga ppc's have that. or maybe get a hp2210 (or dell axim x5), that has dual slots (cf, sd) and cheaper than a vga ppc.

The recently-released Dell Axim X51 has a VGA version. BTW, I second cmonex's inclusion of the Axim X5 as one of the better Pocket PCs. Mine has worked very well for me, and I do like the two card slots (CF and SD). I actually ordered the same model from Dell (after it was discontinued) last year after I broke my first one when I crashed on my motorcycle.

Re: mouse
I wonder if I can get my cordless mouse to work on my MP800. Anyone tried this?

Okay, I've crossed the Toshiba E740 off my list.

I looked up the Ipaq 2200 series and the Dell Axim X5 - both look very good.

I have a question - it seems that all of these come with an XScale processor. Is it hard to find software for Xscale? I'm especially interested in using software like ClearVue Presentation - which I see is only for ARM. I want software that can deal with Powerpoints.

Thanks all. I bought the Dell Axim X5 just now on Ebay. Got a good deal including the Socket wi-fi card and all the other accessories. Santa came early this year!
