This is a warm deal and might be of interest to someone about to buy a 2gb CF card.

For Canadians only.
Future Shop is selling a 2.2gb microdrive usb key for $70 CDN under the name of Jumbo Drive. I bought one to test and it was easy to open and extract the microdrive.

I can confirm it's a magicstor microdrive and it *does* work in my 6651, MP790/880 and my Casio E200.

It won't fit my 720 (I didn't know the 720 only took type I CF till now).

As for the other microdrive I have kicking about (the 4gb unit) it *won't* work in a hpc/ppc or otherwise. It is locked in IDE mode, however it works fine on the usb port of my E200 but not my 6651. Go figure.

Overall, IMO, your country has the better everyday prices on electronics. I used to cross border shop when the exchange rate was good.

We do have some good deals from time to time but like everything, the deal is in the eye of the buyer. Nobody was taking any notice of the 2.2gb drives, they were too busy snapping up the 512mb usb flash drives for $30US.

Not a bad deal, but I can always pop the microdrive back into the housing and use it with USB. Let's see them take apart a flash drive and use it in something else.

I have three pcmcia-cf adpaters (Lexar & 2 Sandisk) and none of them will hold the microdrive? They must all be designed for type I CF only. I'll hunt about for a Type II CF-pcmcia so I can use the microdrive in the 720.

So far the 2.2gb drive performs like a little champ. Hums along, powers down after a few seconds of inactivity, spins up quickly. IMO, a better deal for me than a 1GB CF card for the same price.

Probably because the custoemer wants something that they can straight put in their desktop without cardreaders...

If you do find a CF type II adapter, please notify me ...

I have at least one of the things around here somewhere.

There are loads of them on eBay for peanuts also:

Just curious... I picked up one of these drives and yes it does work, but I found a drastic reduction in battery life was the price of using it.

Are there settings or methods to conserve power using one of these?

runs well all that being said.

Hi Guy,

To be honest my 6651 battery packs are pooched so I've only used the MD on AC power. I appreciate knowing about the power draw. I'll have to take that into account when I rebuild my packs and go on the road.

How much runtime did your pack have without the MD and what's the runtime using the MD?

Does yours emit little squeaks when doing seeks? It sounds kinda neat.
