So I'm working at my desk last week and my wife comes into the office - we both work at home literally our back to each other. She looks at my desk and says, "Man, you have a serious geek desk going on there."

What? Me, geek desk? Oh perish the thoughts... I don't have geek desk... I have functional desk!

Okay, I admit... my desk is slightly above the average on the geek scale but I'm betting I'm not alone. Snap a picture of your desk and let the world be the judge of if you have geek desk syndrome or not. Now no props or other stuff - a picture of how you really use your desk.

Now as you look at my desk, I'll point out the items for you starting from left-to-right:

200GB External HD, Viewsonic V36 PPC ("Piddle"), imate SP5-m Smartphone ("Vickie"), Dell x50v PPC ("Zippy"), Dell D610 Laptop ("Lappy"), Jornada 720 ("Boris")... then my pen case (if you ever want to make my day, send me a cool pen!).

So there you go. Now do I have geek desk?

This is the 2006 version of the "real" desktop's thread

Not so much geeky... more minimalist...

The pen in the centre shot is good $120 of Cross, Rubidium nib, pristine, never even had ink in the well.

...and no, before someone yelps, the SFF isn't my main system.

Yeah, how come C:Amie didn't tell Clinton to search the forum before starting a new thread?

You don't want to see my desk. There's no place to put my gadgets - too much paperwork. Besides, why would I leave my gadgets on my desk? They go wherever I go.

Yup, there was one last year... just thought I'd restart it anew and see what has changed...

But last year wifey hadn't accused me of Geek Desk....

Oh Clinton, next time your wife calls it a "geek desk", you can proudly say:
It's an MVP desk!
But yeah, otherwise, I would agree with her too

Now, thx for starting another "real desktop thread", so I can post my 2006 version as well, altho not much has changed.

- Gamecube; I finally got a Wavebird (see attached receiver) so it got a LOT more use, as evidenced by the games laying in front of it
- Can of Coke; I know I voted for Pepsi, but Tim Horton's has Coke only
- Plastic case with my work schedule
- Smartphone in its craddle
- Cordless phone now on the desk too
- Same old monitor TV (with Picture in Picture), remote is in the middle
- slim keyboard and same old mouse
- MadCatz RetroCON gamepad adapted for my PC
- stack of paper trays... docs and magazines, and actually there's my Sony Picturebook hidding in the bottom tray
- Stargate SG-1 season 1
- latest issue of Handheld Computing (hhcmag.com)

I guess my desk is more pleasure than business

Man oh man, all the desks are so neat and tidy.

IMO, geek desks are heaped with empty pizza boxes and empty fast food bags. Keyboard? Dig for it under all the junk.

Dare I suggest OC disorder goes hand in hand with hpc ownership? Not that either one is bad, mind you

Hope you never sneeze when you're at that desk. They'd need the Jaws of Life to get you out from under all that stuff.

Ok... I have two things to say

I'm scrubbing my monitor in a vein attempt to clean your office j/k

Secondly... WHY do you have a microwave generator in your office?
