Hey guys, I'm new. Found your website and think its great!

Just a question though, is there any other way of charging a Sharp Tripad other then the AC Adapter? I've heard theres a way to charge it through the sync cable. (Perhaps I heard wrong? )

Either way, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know anything about the Tripad, but assuming that the sync cable is a serial cable, I would seriously doubt being able to charge from it. USB on the other hand could potentially be used for charging purposes, but the voltage (5v 500ma is spec for USB port) would have to be boosted pretty substantially to reach a charging voltage for most batteries (unless the system runs on low voltage batteries like ~3.7v). A battery would probably take a long time to charge using USB.

Yeah, it is a serial cable. Unfortunately the Tripad doesnt have USB support (being an older HPC PRO)

Thanks for your comment!

well even usb wouldn't supply enough power. 5v is simply not enough. you may have heard this about pocketpc's, they require exactly 5v or around that with their weak 3.6-3.7v batteries

You could charge it wiring enough cells on the right capacity and voltage in the proper series/prallel configuration. You could even use a car battey if 12v was the optimal charge.

Whatever you try, get the polarity correct or you'll kill something (zener clamping diode perhaps!)

Perhaps find a brick with a close voltage and add a dropping resistor. Again get the polarity correct. A last choice would be a variable DC ham type power supply. The adjust from 5-15v in most cases.

I'm in the same boat. I have to rig something for my MP790 because the brick died. I'm watching ebay for the thin style ps which is easier and more compact to travel with.

erm, they're all over ebay i mean those nice little psu's for the mobilepro's
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEC-MobilePro-750C-770-780-790-AC-Adapter-S1424-21A-9V_W0QQitemZ6837392184QQcategoryZ31515QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
or didn't you mean the original mobilepro ac adapter? they sure are small

btw i'm fairly sure the tripad needs more than 12v (battery is usually 10.8-11.1 with such a device )

Actually it says on the Tripad's AC-adapter 9.9 volts.

If I cant find a compat. ac adapter, I'll have to get a custom one made.
