Has anyone had any luck getting the Intel 2011 wifi pcmcia card to work on the Mobilepro 880? I've tried the intel 2011 ce 2.11 drivers. Also tried prism 2.5 drivers for ce 2.11. They isntall well, but the machine freezes up when I plug in the card. Could it be because there's not a network in range? Does the constant searching lock everything up? Curious if anybody else has had similar experience.

First, is it a 2011 or a 2011b? The "b" is pccard.

Second, forget prism drivers. It's a spectrum/socket (not sure) chipset.

Third, backup, hard reset and install just the wifi driver. If it works you should be able to restore then fiddle in the registry to sort things out.

Thanks for the quick reply! It's a 2011, not a 2011b (the model number is wpc2011na). I've tried hard reseting and installing the drivers. It installs well, but freezes up once I put the card in. I tested the card in a windows xp laptop, and it worked fine. So, I'm guessing (and hoping) the problem is with the software. Too bad about prism, I had hoped I was starting to make progress.

does the card have a gold strip on it? (near the connector)

it if does, it is a cardbus 32 bit, forget about it then (thats why it's freezing then)

I forgot to ask. Are you using the CD drivers or from the Intel website? IIRC, I had to hunt around a bit at Intel to find drivers for my 2011b.

Wait a sec, the 2011 *might* be prism. For sure the 2011b isn't. Have a look at Intel and see if newer drivers exist.

I tried drivers from intel's site, too. They don't work either. But, I think you were right anout it being spectrum. I downloaded some spectrum drivers and the interface looks identical. It actually recognizes the card, but the card doesn't light up. I will however, test it out and see if it can indeed pick up a wifi network. hope it works!

I did some research and found out that spectrum is actually prism chipsets, so that explains why the prism 2.5 drivers were partially working. I alos tried the infamous comapq wl100 drives with the same result; locking up when it tries to find a network. So, it looks like the 2011 is not compatible at all with the MP 880. What a shame.

Have you installed the MP Updates patch, it has a PCMCIA dll update in it which can resolve some incompatibility issues.

Yes, I have the mp780 update installed. I think my 2011 is going to head off to ebay soon.
