noisy MP 790

I just purchased a used MP 790. It makes a buzzing/hissing sound when powered up (sometimes steady, sometimes intermittent), loud enough to be noticeable and slightly annoying. Is this normal? If not, is there anything one can do to quiet the thing down?

Funny you should mention this. My 890 (previously an 880 before the rom swap) now buzzes when the brightness is down. I don't remember this "feature" before I swapped the rom.

So, up the brightness and tell us if the buzz goes away.

My Compaq 2010c used to buzz all the time when I used it...

Thanks for the response. Turning the brightness alters the noise a little, and sometimes damps it out for a few seconds, but then it comes right back.
