Hi - well, I thought I did my homework and got a EVDO card that would work with my mobilepro 790 (Sierra Wireless 580) AND my data service provider (Sprint). Alas, while the aircard works wonderfully with my laptop, the driver didn't install on the MP790. I then downloaded the Sierra 550 aircard driver; that installed on the MP790, but couldn't find the Sierra 580 card. Does a HPC driver for the Sierra 580 exist (that will work with CE 3.0) or is this a futile search?

is the driver you tried to install a CE driver at all?

if so, does it have a MIPS version? if it does and it is a pocketpc driver (obvious then) you have a chance, otherwise not, i don't know the 550 but probably it is not even EVDO is it?

Sierra Wireless claims that the driver works with CE 3.0 (http://www.sierrawireless.com/support/faq/faq_ac550.aspx#os). Not sure how to tell whether there is a MIPS version.

I think you're right, the 550 is not evdo, just cdma.

Do you think it would be worthwhile getting a 550 card? I would assume that it would be slower than the 580, which gets high marks for speed, but that might be OK. The convenience of hooking up to my cellular network as opposed to wi-fi (which I could never get to work on my mobilepro 790) might make up for the slower speed.

According to Sierra the 580 is cardbus. I'm afraid this means no-go, no how in your 790.

OK, thanks for the reality check. Seems like the 550 card ought to work, since the driver installed correctly. What do you think?
