Backing up with AS 3.8 and CE 2.0 device is very slow. Worst is backing up Avantgo. That takes a good 40 minutes alone. The bulk is obviously the news stories which appear to be stored in directory
\program files\avantgo\databases\AvGoDocsMQ

Before maing a backup, are the files in that directory deletable, and if they are, does their loss screw up the program?

Interested,
Jake

So far, I find that deleting the files in AvGoDocsMQ freaks out Avantgo, even if you leave the file called Stamp. And even after resynching, Avantgo won't replace those files.

Here's the only workaround I can find. Zip the directory AvGoDocsMQ and move it to your desktop. Then delete all the files in AvGoDocsMQ on your HPC. Then backup with AS, and in the desktop backup folder, store the zipped AvGoDocsMQ.

Upon restore, drop the zipped AvGoDocsMQ into an empty directory and unzip those files back into the original AvGoDocsMQ. It cuts the backup of Avantgo by 90%, though convoluted, but most of us are

In AvantGo, if you File > Channel Manager/Forms Manager/Cache Manager > Select All > Clear > OK
This action clears out the AvG cache, how does that respond with your backup?

Hi, Chris,

Your way is ultimately more convenient. Clearing the pages leaves about 100K, in a variety of files which AS slowly agonizes over as it backs them up. But my way, while clearing that directory completely, involves 600K worth of files that do not zip down very well, so the transfer of that package takes a while.

Plus, your way removes the hassle of unzipping, reloading, etc.

Never quite figured out why AS backups are so glacial, regardless of version. On the other hand, the backup is always correct and the restore always thorough. But still a life-waster
