Is it possible to make a backup of registry, system and data/applications directly to the desktop machine?
I'm connected via network (using 3c589 which works well except for having to enter "3c589" at bootup).
I'd like to just back everything up to one big file on the desktop via the network.
I know I can copy files, which is an adequate workaround. But.
anyone found a way to do that?

Doesn't ActiveSync do this?
Check out: http://www.tunelab-world.com/backupactivesync.html

Backup guide: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/backup.htm

Also, check out http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?productId=21306
STGViewer can read & restore the files you backup - not sure if it can read the registry keys in the ActiveSync Backup file though...

The "STG" file (active sync backup file) is stored in your (on XP) C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Bloggs\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\device\*.stg
