I have a jornada 720 and a Proxim Harmony 802.11b pcmcia card I have the ce drivers loaded on the jornada and the lights come on, signal strength is full and link strength is full but the ip of the card is 169.254.61.34 and my network is 192.168.1.1 so it doesn't access my network. I have tried setting up a static ip through the network adapter properties and again the link and signal strengths are full but it still won't acces my network. Someone Please help.

On the router/AP do you have SSID broadcast turned on and MAC filters turned off

Linksys and H/PC do not go together very well in general.

You can try changing the router's network to 169.254.16.... but this sounds more like the fault of the card.

Looking around other forums does not seem to give a real answer. I heard problems with firmware, and you might need to update. Other than that, I don't know.

meh

PS 168. is a place holder IP, it doesn't mean it is linked.

Yes. When a NIC card's systems selects a 169.xxx subnet it means it could not get any type of DHCP reply; the network subsystem is programmed to auto-select some number of the 169.xxx subnet from an internal call when the DHCP fails.

It means that the card completed failed the link with the Linksys, or it did link with the Linksys but then the router failed in supplying the NIC with a DHCP IP. Either way it is a notification that the NIC will have no connectivity.

I think ProgramSynthesiser is right, and if you look in the CE2.0 forum you will note my own (recent) tests of CE WiFi NIC with Linksys router. It failed miserably. My Lucent Orinoco in a CE2.0 HP 660LX links perfectly with my (personal) D-Link 624 router but died a painful, miserable link death with my (office) Linksys BEFW11S4. If the pattern holds true then Linksys + CE WiFi = very unhappy camper.

Oh, just eject and reinsert until it works. That sounds like a great way to get the card to register with the router...and blow the Jornada's irda and sound system.

So I didn't know one bit of common knowledge! Gah!

well, you can also soft reset. before you say it will wear out the reset hole... use warmreboot (S309 - this is what i use) or some other reset app

You mean the 720 doesn't do the POWER - CTRL - BACKSPACE three-finger salute???

What hair-brained designer thought of that idea?
