| Informally my 2nd (newer) 720 is faster than my first. I know it seems strange but it's noticeable. The only thing I wonder is why?
Different builds? If there are better 720s avaiable you'd think they would be documented and command higher prices.
BQM does show the 2nd 720 is a few points faster but the use and feel seems way faster than bmq indicates. |

| Did you hard reset both? |

| hmmm ... what if it makes both as slow as a result? ... maybe hard reset the first unit and see if it becomes faster. If it is still different, take a risk and hard reset the second? |

| The 2nd was built from a reload of a backup of the first unit if that makes any sense. I'll HR the first one and reload it from the same image as the 2nd and make another comparison.
I'm even using the same CF & wifi cards from unit to unit to elimiinate those as factors. |

| There are several versions of the 720, and a couple of different ROM builds.
What information do you have the the base plates of each device? It is always possible that there is a hardware affliction at work though. |

| Ok, here's the baseplate info:
F1816A ABA for both units
First unit serial: SG131xxxxx
Second unit Serial: SG042xxxxx
Anything else from the baseplate that's of use? I'm not to keen to hard reset just yet.
How do I determine the rom build? Are there diagnostics I can enter by pressing a key? |

| If its like the J680 press the reset button and immediatly hold down "S". |

| NOT immediately! you do that on the 680 but its incorrect on the 720, you need to wait 1 sec before pressing S (but you still need to press it before the initial hp screen appears ). then select EEPROM & one loop
i didnt see sucn an option in hp diag on the 680 is there any that i may have not noticed? |

| Alrighty then, here's the info from the diagnostics. Both units have the same time stamp for the build.
First 720: BOD=16/10/2001
2nd 720:BOD=12/10/2000
The checksum for the EEPROMs are different, but wouldn't different serial #'s account for that?
Anything else I should include? |

| I think I pinned it down.
I ran the diagnostics in a loop testing the ram and after many cycles it failed.
I rebooted and same deal, it passes the test for many cycles then fails.
It must be a "sticky" bit. Thankfully Wildbill has an extra ram board to send my way. |

| The ram test never fails on the other 720. I left it to run for hours and it passed. |
