| I've narrowed down the creak to the left hinge (which is even tighter than the right), and if I remember correctly, the J-720 opens with a gear system, so the creaking may indeed be the cogs on the left side.
I've never opened one of these things before. To get to just the cogs, how much surgery is that? Do I really need to drop the whole screen? Good grief.

| As I write this, I'm sure my 720 will blow up, but for the record, two or three drops of 3-1 oil around each hinge did nothing until three days later when the hinge opened and closed soundlessly.
Obviously, the oil needed time to work its way into the gear cogs, but as of today, the hinge no longer makes any noise.
But I have bad luck with these things, so it'll probably spontaneously combust sometime tonight.
