Hi,

I have recently purchased a Neta 985 which I am planning on using to take hand written notes in meetings.

The challenge I am having is that due to x86 processor it is hard to find a third party software program with this functionality. If anybody is aware of a program that I can use I would be grateful.

or.... does anybody out there know how to enable the ability to create hand written notes in wordpad that would work as well. It seems that I end up with transcriber running in the background and it is always trying to translate my chicken scratch.

Wow... That's a tough one.

I have a Neta 985 at work and know that it is difficult to get any 3rd Party stuff for it.

It is a really neat piece of hardware though!

(The funny thing is that if anyone uses the Microsoft C++ embedded tools they most always end up developing to their own x86 platform. However, they never seem to publish the x86 executable.)

An x86 version of Inkwriter (as found on ce 2.11 and 3.0 devices) looks like it would be perfect....?

I'll look around.

Yeah there used to be a thread where someone listed all the software that has x86 version (that he could find anyway).

Meanwhile just look for a good CE program that does what you want and then ask the developer nicely if they offer a version for x86 as well. You'd have better luck with commercial programs of course, since you're a paying customer Freeware developers don't usually update their stuff after they have stopped developing it for a while. There are exceptions tho.

This may be a long shot. (Sorry for the Long Post - Some of this data is available in the forums.)

I was able to export the inwriter.exe (executable) and some likely looking support files from the MS embedded tools emulator.

Note: Without a unit, I can't test the downloads. The files appear to be intact.

My J720 only has one file 44k in length inwrite.exe. There is a companion help file inkwrite.htm as well as a directory of templates.

I won't upload them or anything. However with embedded tools 3.0 and 4.0 are freely available for downloading from a number of sites (including this one.) It should be too hard to download the software and extract the files.

Suggested Steps:
1. Install the embedded tool on your machine (you must have XP, 2000, or NT) for the emulator to install.
2. Install a SDK with Inwriter. I used the 2.11 image.
3. Run the C++ compiler.
4. Go to Tools / Remote File View
5. Navigate to the Windows directory (this will be the emulator's directory)
6. Import (not export) the inkwrite.exe , inkwrite.htm , and (I'm not sure this is necessary.. who knows?) the inkwres.dll files to your XP/NT/2000 system.
7. Upload the software to your neta (a CF card transfer should do it since I could never get Activesync to work on my Neta 985.)

If all goes well then give it a test.

(I am not responsible if your Neta explodes or melts down or in general screws up. - or Billy Gates comes a knockin' )

For the record, here are the known x86 file sites (found somewhere on the HPC: Factor site - I hope that reposting this list is OK - I added a few comments and the original post is 1 year old). I checked a number of them out and found many not to work and many with no mention of x86 versions
(Note: "<- Blah blah" are a few of my comments.)
