I just checked at batteryspace and the 18650 lions are $9.13US each! With a need for 50-60 cells I'll be in the poor house with those prices

Weren't they about $4-5 last summer or fall? Did the main lion factory burn down?

What better priced alternatives to batteryspace are there? Any?

I don't know if there is an alternative. LIon's have jumped in price by as much as 200% in some locations. The materials are simply scarce at the moment.

How's this deal for your J720s?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5840501794&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT

I got an extended battery from this vendor for 36 GBP. Did I pay too much?

Ok, I'll ride out the high prices and wait for them to drop back to 4-5$ per cell. Like the ram price dance I can't see lions staying high forever.

I should have bought my stash last summer when prices were cheap. Oh well.

Wally, if you compare the $9 per cell price vs an equivalent read-to-use battery, it is way cheaper.

btw, only the Intermec, Jornadas and MobilePros use the 18650 cells. The SL4 uses a different custom batt pack, I think a series of A size li-ion batts in a custom config. When I first refurbed the batt for my previous MobilePro & Compaq M300, the cell is around $8~$9. If its still around that price, I say its didn't changed much.

If you are willing to buy 2000mah batts instead of the newer 2400mah, I think they go for $6 or so.
