Hello,

I have a question, maybe it's asked before but couldn't find a answer.

I can connect to my shared folders from my handheld by typing for example:
\\pc1

Is there no way to connect via an ip address?
\\192.168.1.101 or something like in Windows?
I want to connect to any PC in the network without first look into the PC for the computer name.

Is there any scan software for the handheld to resolve the Computer Name? I have such programs for PC but can't find them for H/PC2000

When I am in school with my laptop, I see all computers in the "My Network Places" and see folders.
I want the same with my Handheld PC.

Well I know when you put in the IP address of any machine, it acts like you're trying to get to a webpage, not a network folder, even if you're in Windows...at least it does that to me.....
I dunno what kind of HPC you've got but if you've got a 720 check here:

Other than some spanish sites (which I can hardly read ) this is the best place to get a program.

Resco File Explorer can be used to explore a known workgroup, but does not have domain access - which you will probably need at school.

Yes I have a HP Jornada 720 machine.

I have found some host lookup programs to resolve things, but with them I can only get an IP adress from a computer name.

Example:

When I type:
PC4, I get the result 192.168.1.104
or another computer, I get the IP adres from that machine.
But I want to do the opposite from this.

When I type 192.168.1.104
I want to see that it's the computer with name: "PC4"
but that's not working..

Don't need to search anymore, found the sollution.
With the Resco utility I found a button "Computers near me"
I can see the names now, I can even directly connect to them!

Thanx!
