| Hello Everyone,
What is your favorite desktop OS'? Mine personally are Windows 95 C, XP Sp2, and Mac OS 10.2...
By the way, I did not make this a poll because there are so many OS' to choose from...
EDIT: I mean Windows 95 C

| I liked 98 a lot better than 95, and XP was the first real improvement since 98. But I've never tried a Mac; maybe I should. |

all other PC OS's suck in my (humble) experience (sorry) |

| I'd have to say Amiga OS 3.1, Apple ProDOS, Windows XP, OS X, and of course Windows CE. Edited by alphacrumb 2006-03-12 2:43 AM

| On my Toshiba desktop (133 MHZ/32 MB RAM/2 GIG HD ) I had Windows 98 SE installed and stripped... I did not get many BSODs, but it was really slow and froze on me a few times.. Windows 95 (Original or A ) worked pretty fast.. But, I just ordered WIndows 95 C on CD from eBay to use with Virtual PC 2004 on Windows XP Home Edition. Why 95? Well, I want to use it to boot in DOS to play all of my old DOS games (the easier way to use DOS ) and for syncing with my Velo on HPC Explorer 1.1...
EDIT: Alphacrumb: Do you mean Windows CE 3.0 x86 desktop? And, I do like your avatar Edited by tenjeangosi 2006-03-12 2:35 AM

| I meant the version of Windows CE in my daughter's Personal Internet Communicator--I bought it for her from eBay in December because I figured it would be a no-fuss machine (she's only 10 years old ). It's fast, secure, silent, and just plain easy to set up. It's darn durable, too-my daughter accidently pulled it off her desk and on to the floor and it didn't miss a beat. It even came with Textmaker and Planmaker. I believe its Windows Mobile 5.
And thank-you for the compliment about my avatar. My daughter told me my old one wasn't "shiny" enough. Kids these days. Edited by alphacrumb 2006-03-12 2:57 AM

| Now I want one
EDIT: 90 USD on eBay is a great deal for it... Do you know if it can run normal ARM/XScale Apps? Edited by tenjeangosi 2006-03-12 3:12 AM

| You know, it's funny, but I've never tried installing any of my ARM or MIPS software on it. But I doubt they would run anyway--the PIC has an AMD processor in it.
From my (limited ) experience with XScale, the AMD seems to be quite a bit faster. Of course, that might be because of the OS. In terms of the Softmaker software, they seem to run as fast as the XP versions I have--and that's on a AMD 2700+ Athlon!
The PIC definitely shows what Windows CE might have been like on a consumer HPC if HP or NEC hadn't stopped making them.
In any case, the PIC was originally conceived by AMD for Third World countries as a durable, low wattage PC alternative, which I think is a wonderful idea.
And my daughter thinks its cute.
EDIT: Yes, the eBay price is absolutely the way to go--Radio Shack sells PICs, too, but at more than twice the price! Edited by alphacrumb 2006-03-12 3:48 AM

| Well, I'd have to say Workbench 1.3 on my Amiga A1000. Ah, the good ol' days (especially of using "Say" or "Speak", I can't remember what it was named ). |

| I have my Windows 98se cd and key and that keep me going on my laptop and I have Windows XP Home on my desktop and that sucks big time. I have a new laptop with Windows XP Pro SP2 which is nice but I didn't get the activation key with this laptop so I can't upgrade hardware.
I have Windows 95b on a couple of old, small laptops. A little slow because the memory is limited to 16mb, but instant-on.
My tried and true OS is Windows 98se and I'm just waiting for Vista to come out, so hopefully the price of the XP Pro cds at Ebay comes down. |

The simple answer to this question is "whichever does the job" is my favourite. Like withg the browsers, as far as I'm concerned; it's not about loyalty - it's about getting the Job done. |
