More than the WHO would deem to be a healthy quota.

I think existing Arms app should work on the PIC right? If it is ARMs, it should work, never mind the maker. I think ...

EDIT: Right now Windows XP. DOS rocked while was at it. Win3.1 was cool, 95 blew things away, 98 was pretty good. I'm rooting for UMPC with its WinXP TabletPC ed. Since it will allow me to use my fingers on it, I say its attractive. But until I use it, WinXP for now.

And there in lies the crux. The PIC is powered by an AMD Geode GX processor. I believe its a variant of the x86 architecture. So no ARM programs, I'm afraid. The PIC however comes with a suite of Softmaker programs, viewers for images and PDfs, Windows Messenger, WMP, a few games, Flash Player 6, and IE6 (which seems fairly robust, although there's the occasional webpage that loads strangely), and a 10GB HD for storage.

As for the version of Windows CE on it, it apparently has a few ties to XP.

Here's a few more pics of a PIC (not mine):

No, not XP embedded (that would be interesting). It's still Windows CE (WM5 actually), but it apparently shares a few software hooks with XP--for what reason, who knows?

What other changes are in the OS, I probably should look into. But it's all very stable and secure--there's even a little hardware reset pushhole like in my Jornada.

That *would* be a great idea. Add a battery and you could have a pretty robust portable. Afterall, the Geode processor in the PIC uses only 1 watt. (I think I'll try this when I have some spare time.)
