I'm afraid that I don't have the faintest idea what is going on there. I don't know the names involved.

A summary then.

A chain of coffeeshops has a yearly promotion where rolling up the paper cup rim might reveal a new car or other prizes.

So the coffee buyer tossed his cup without checking it. 2 schoolgirls picked the cup from the trash and rolled up the rim to discover they won a new car.

Now the original purchaser wants a DNA test done on the cup to prove it was him that threw it away so he can claim the car.

Give me a break, once you've abandoned it you forfeit all rights to it. Kinda like hpc programs no longer available.

Oh right, that's pretty comedic

Thanks for clarifying.

I admit it makes more sense to Canadians who have an average of 1 Tim Hortons coffee shop per each 12,000 residents.

In my fair city of 125,000 I can count 13 Tim Hortons outlets, and I'm sure I missed some. You'd think Canadians lived on coffee and donuts with those statistics.

And yes, I admit I've pulled Tim Hortons paper cups from the trash and rolled up the rim to see what somebody else had thrown away. No free cars , , but many free donuts

It will be one of the schoolgirls parents. The girls aren't allowed by law to partcipate in lotteries and draws (they are under 18) so a parent will have to claim the car.

It *won't* be the imbecile that admits to throwing the cup into the trash. He forfeited his rights to the car when he discarded the cup.

If it turns out any differently I'll a.) let you know and b.) loose all faith in Canadian courts of law.

I think the legal term that applies here is "finders keepers, losers weepers."

I think you are right. I can imagine some high priced lawyer presenting that arguement to the judge and jury would all have them nodding in agreement

Legal fees will ultimately be more than the value of the vehicle if this goes to court.

That's one of the reasons why I don't play lotteries. They just seem to bring out the worst in people.
