| Hello,
I just purchased Windows 95 OSR2.5 (Last release of Win95 ) with FAT 32 and USB support.. I would like to install 95 on an old Toshiba Infinia 7161 with P1 MMX/CDRW/2.37 GIG HDD/49 MB RAM... I made a Win 95 version B bootdisk and I put in my Win95 CD and my bootdisk and I run the setup at the prompt says that it needs to do some checking on my system, I continue, then it says that my hard drive is NTFS or HDFS (something like that.. ) and cannot continue.. But my 2.37 GB is formatted with FAT 32... Do I need to reformat my drive to FAT 16?
Thanks much for ANY help at all..

| Joseph, I can offer a couple of hints.
You don't need FAT16, 95b and above are OK with fat32.
Boot your 95 floppy, run fdisk from it and see it the partition is really ntfs/hpfs. It it is FAT32 use fdisk to remove it, reboot from the floppy and run fdisk again. Create your partitio (s )
Use "fdisk/mbr" to rewrite the master boot record for good measure.
Now try to install from your CD and report back |

| Or you should be able to use a Windows 95C/Windows 98 boot disk which can read FAT32 to begin the installation |

| Now the bootdisk thinks that there is no hard drive.. |

| I take it that you FDisk'd it then.
You need to create a new primary partition on the disk, then reboot and format it. |

| Didn't you hear?
There was a nuclear meltdown in Colorado Springs on Friday evening. Sources say it was down to a gone-wrong Windows 95 installation.
I hope you got it sorted Tenjeangosi |

| Well, I tried the install a few times on the Infinia and it said that I did not have a hard drive present, so I put the old hard drive in my newer computer and tried formatting the drive, but I believe I accidentally partitioned my good drive with Win XP, and I had serial numbers of my software on there so I lost about $50 worth of The Sims games, and now my newer computer does not like my system restore cds (for XP ) and now I am trying to install WIndows Server 2003 trial on that computer and it is now formatting my hard drive now, so maybe just maybe Win XP could be installed again...
-Big Mistake -
EDIT: Thank You for the advice guys, anyway Edited by tenjeangosi 2006-03-19 2:07 PM

| I er, have to say it... but this is what happens when you fiddle with such things. Especially attempting to use NOS's with no need or reason.
Tell us what the problem with your newer computer is, and we'll have a stab at resolving that and return to the Infinia at a later time. |

| Network Operating System.
If you want to continue tracking the Windows 95 thread for fixing the Infinia, then please do make a new one for the other PC. |

| wally,
It is not your fault, besides, oddly the computer now works... Now I have to be prepared for over 3 hours worth of Windows updates... |
