I can only dream about having new in box 720s, 728s, Mobilepros and Intermecs. BTW, have any NIB MPs surfaced recently (other than 900 series). I did see a NIB Intermec on ebay a couple years back. I don't remember the price.

edit: Maul, is it a North American model or Asian? I ask because I see kanji (?) on one of the packages.

well! i almost got a NIB J728 locally, a few days ago... ok not new but like new... and certainly in box
seller said it was in mint condition ... mmmh we almost made the deal but then some relative of him stepped in and got the package i didn't even get a chance to have a look at it..

How do you people find stuff like this, i.e. a jornada under $45!

I don't know how many of you have gotten to open a brand new HPC, so I thought I'd share the experience. For most of us buying these when they were new was cost prohibitive so here's what you missed.

When I got my first 720, back in December 1999, I had a similar experience. I am pretty sure there was a beam of light from Heaven with angelic singing in the background as I cracked open the box and observed by then $1050 Jornada.

I still have my boxes, manuals, etc. from Pinkie, my first 720. Pinkie now is with Chris in the UK and Boris is my 2nd 720.

The easiest way to explain it is to compare H/PC owners to crack addicts....

Once you have tasted it, you will do anything and everything to get another fix - including searching the bowels of eBay.

Needless to say I'm currently in HPC heaven.
I am so so so so glad you found a "MINT" HPC!!!!! Now what are you going to do with the not so mint units? I told you the only way to get a mint unit was to buy new.

No.... it was December 1999. I can produce the receipt more-than-likely. Pinkie's serial number and ROM Born-on-Date are both very early in the run so he was one of the first ones out of the factory.

Looks exactly like mine does, except the literature in the box is different. I still have my box sitting by the side of the desk here. The only thing I removed was the device and the cradle. Everything else is untouched. I didn't even rip the sticker to get it open, software and manuals still sealed.

Ahh, the joys of Jornada ownership.

oh, then maybe i was wrong!

btw i recall this now: i found a j720 somewhere that said january 2000 in the hp diag when i asked it... and just recently found another which is partially a j728 (screen - the cover is plain 720 though, stylus, case around the keyboard) and it said july 2004. is that possible?

July 2004? Now that is interesting. Is there is chance there is a service ROM from that date? Only a factory serviced 72x would contain that ROM?

I thought gizmos like 720s were produced in one or two big production runs, then the equipment was laid idle and the next gizmo was put on the production line.
