Two items of interest to hpc owners are on sale this weekend at Canadian retailers.

Future Shop is selling a 4gb Hyundai external USB MD for $80. I bought one to harvest the drive and see if it works in a hpc. If not, well it's still pretty cheap for a 4gb memory key.

Canadian Tire has their 400w inverter on sale for $45. It has 2 AC outlets and a nice digital readout. IMO, why buy DC adapters for hpcs when you can use the AC adapter in your car with an inverter?

If you need more than 2 outlets the dollar store has a 3 outlet grounded adapter for $1.

edit: I missed a good deal from Future Shop last week. They had 1gb CF MDs for $30. They will hopefully go on sale again. I'm pretty sure MDs <4gb are all unlocked and will work in a hpc. All the ones I've tried have worked.

Cool I surely want a 1 GB MD for $30. Not ready to shell out $80 tho, if it may not work with my devices

As for the car inverter... I suppose you have a huge car/truck? I drive a compact car so I'd prefer the cig charger anyday.

Actually I drive a compact truck with a bench seat so space is pretty limited, perhaps even less interior room than you have.

The 200w inverter ($30 on sale) is pretty small, ppc sized, lol. I bought the 400w unit which is considerably larger but luckily it's just about the right size to mount on top of my ham radio.

edit: I'm annoyed at FS. I ordered two of the $30 MDs but they messed up my order. Figures.

I checked and the 1gb MD is on sale again but at $45. Still a reasonable deal.

Yeah that's cheaper than a 1GB CF card... strange, the title says "web only" but the site says they have stock at two of the closest stores I set. I'll see what happens tonight. Thanks!

Meanwhile perhaps I'll search for any reports of using that particular drive in CF slot. Won't hurt to try.

If I get one I may possibly use it for Windows 95 emulation. Just for the hack of it

*edit* is this a better deal?

ok wally, unless they start selling the 1GB at $30 again, maybe I'll go for that 4GB Hyundai afterall (it's $75 now)... When will you report the compatibility? I want to know so badly...

Shouldn't be a problem at all. As long as it is FAT or FAT32 (H/PC2000) then you should be fine.

I agree. When I was looking for a 12VDC adapter, I could only find a 2.5A adapter for $30. (The J720 AC adapter is rated at 2500mA.) Alternatively, I found a 75W inverter for less than $15, which I could use with other appliances. At 12*2.5=30W max draw from the HPC, the inverter provides plenty of power. Later, I found a 200W inverter for $22, though it says above 150W to use the alligator clips directly on the battery. It has only a single outlet, but I doubt I'll need more. Now I have one in my girlfriend's car and one in my SUV--for little more than a single adapter, and multi-use, too. :+)
