Some installer executables for CE 3.0-core appplications mistakenly detect the J720 as a Pocket PC rather than an H/PC. (It's a glitch in the 720.) There's a patch for this; cmonex should have it. (I have it on a CD, but I don't know how reliable that copy of the file is. I can dig it up and send it to you if you need it, though.)

I have a J720 with MA401 and got the same expierence, but the wifi connection works! (if it no has wep)
I tried too with compaq wl100 drivers, but the results was the same.
Apparently this drivers charges some program in stsrtup menu and generated a violation of memory.
I can't find solution, like I said at the beginning the wifi works great!
Good luck and let me know if I can help you.
Best regards

Hitting the Prism 2.5 reference drivers article in the support section should also provide you with a solution.
Glad that you got it sorted.

EDIT: The identification patch is very simple.
Open a registry editor and navigate to:
HKLM\Windows CE Tools

Create a new string called Platform and set the value to:
{0F9D255B-97DA-4641-A8E6-7A7411D2472F}

Soft reset and you're done

Would a small CESD page on this be a good idea? (Or have I missed one that's already there?)

I use the Linksys WPC11 v2.5 drivers with my MA401 and there's no problems. As others mentioined, the prism reference drivers from this site are a good choice too.

Hello, me again
I tried to:
Open a registry editor and navigate to:
HKLM\Windows CE Tools

Create a new string called Platform and set the value to:
{0F9D255B-97DA-4641-A8E6-7A7411D2472F}

But I don't have the key "windows ce tools". more near to this is "windows ce services". Must I create this key?

It's my opinion that intersil had problems understanding properly what Windows CE 3 was. Yes, the 2.11 drivers have always been the fallback and will work under 3.00, they're just not optimised in code.
