Hi, newbie here. I bought a Mobilepro 880 in the hope of doing internet surfing to start. The device came with a Enterasys Roamabout WiFi card (PCMCIA). On the front of the card it says "802.11 DS High Rate". On the Back it says "CSIBD-AA" and "High Rate / 40 Bit WEP."

On my system tab, it shows:

Microsoft Windows CE, Handheld PC Edition 3.01
Core System Version 2.11

Then it goes on to list Pocket IE and Outlook versions.

I believe I need the driver for the Roamabout card. I d/l'd a 2.0 driver from here and unzipped it onto a CF card, but none of the files would begin aninstallation. Just said the filoe is not a recognized file. Thinking that maybe my device is H/PC Pro, I looked for that driver and it is not available here, though the icon shows it is.

How do get this wireless card working, or should I scrap it and get a better one?

Also I'm unsure if I have the right service packs installed. I think I need CE-SP1.exe, but not sure. It's very confusing.

Your guys help would be fantastic. Thanks for all (nice0 comments)

yes you have a hpc pro device (hpc version of CE 2.11) i'm sure your card is compatible, but i never had such a card, so i hope someone else can help with locating the driver.
you need SP1 for hpc pro. (and NOT for CE 2.0). - or if you already have system build 9000 or higher, no need for it... you can check it in control panel / system / in the bottom right corner of one of the tabs

Just to point out. You run exe installers on a PC with ActivSync and .CAB's on device. Cabs do not need extracting, just executing on device. When installing from a CAB, you need to select the correct processor type before you run it, otherwise it will just error.

I have that card and it will work for HPC pro devices. It is a great card. I'll try to find the driver for you. I think I got mine from the HCL though.

So, the ce-sp1.exe file must be run when Active Sync is linking the two, correct? No way I can avoid actice sync and do it from a CF card? How would I do that?
Thanks for the help!

I believe it is:
RoamAbout-client-WIN-CEV211-628-sw.exe

Can I "install" this without active sync, via a CF card? I tried by executing the self extracting file to the CF card, then plugging it into the 880. Unfortunately, none of the files "did" anything that I could see when I double tapped them. No message that it was complete, or progress bar, etc.
If I have to bite the bullet and get active sync going, I guess I will.

When the 880 asks you for a driver name for the card, should I type in Windows CE 2.11 - Driver name is WLRBT46, as the HCL says?

I'm already in better shape from my one post, thanks for any help.

the agere reference (lucent orinoco silver) drivers should work great with this card. The roamabout driver appears to be an older version, that's all.

No problem, Ceya - we got a good laugh.

Oh, and I think jpfx is right, at least based on my research.

I have the gold card and it seems both card works better with both drivers installed but delete on and neither work.

Do a back up so you won't be stuck trying to get it working.
