I seem to be at a dead end with getting my Pencetra 130 working with wifi.

I have installed both Linksys WPC11 & Cisco 340 cards and drivers.

Problem is both work on initial setup, but as soon as card is removed, or machine switched off, the cards are no longer recgonised!

I have to do a hard reset and then re-install and whichever software & card I install is recognised and will work again - just after the instal. Remove card or switch off and same problem.

I have used the Cisco card on Jornada's with no problems.

Also when I try to de-install the divers/utitlies for each, the Pencentra says I can't becuase a .dll file is in use (hence the hard resets).

Sorry if I'm being thick and missed something obvious.

Anyone got any suggestions?

if you do the hardreset only to uninstall the driver... the solution: go to windows/startup, delete the wifi links from there, soft reset (no cards inserted!), and uninstall. woo hoo you can successfully do it.

edit: no idea why the drivers stop working what driver are you using for the linksys? i could try to help with the linksys, but know almost nothing about cisco from experience (i got my hands on a 340 for 5 mins, plugged it in jornada, no setup, and it worked instantly)

I have a PenCentra 200. I have got the 340 card to work just fine. What version of driver are you running?

Have you tried soft-resetting the PenCentra (without uninstalling the WiFi card driver) before inserting the card again? I've had a similar problem occasionally, and this always solves it.

Hi ,

I have tried soft resets (if you mean turning of/on again) but to no avail.

I am using the latest ce2.11 drivers for the 340 (downloaded from Cisco).

I am using the wince drivers for the Linksys (from Linksys site).

Maybe I should have mentioned, when the Linksys card stops responding if you click on the utility link the utilities page flashes up but does not rmain on.

From memory the utilites for the 340 do come up but say no card is installed.

Also, when re-placing either card I do not get the message about using a PC Card on battey.

When this happens with the 340 the activity light flashhes two or three times, and status about once and then it is dead.

With the Linksys no lights on the card at all.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks fot the help thus far.

That doesn't sound like a soft reset. Isn't there a reset button inside a hole on the back side of the unit?

There is a button on the inside of the back cover where the RAM is installed, but this seems to hard-reset the device?

No... I have jus found a soft-reset on the top of the unit.

I will try this and see how I get on!

Right... The soft reset is working and helping a bit.

I can now keep the card recognised and receive an excellent signal & connection. I have the correct WEP set-up and am using DNS that I know to be correct (worked find on my Jornada's). My wifi dos not use DCHP. So I have a connection to my wifi/broiadband and all appears well..... But I cannot get a web connection for IE or email (they are set for network connection)?

trying older drivers might work, especially as the utilities aren't working with the set you are using.
