Hello, I'm Italian, I have a little problem.
The MobilePro 790 in battery operation, after 3-5 min. of inactivity will powering off.
When I install my Wi-Fi card ORiNOCO Gold, the MP790 dosn't powering off in battery operation if I uncheck the flag "suspend while connected".
Now, when I use the Sierra Aircard 750, this option is not available.
I use Sierra Aircard 750 also like a GSM phone to receive phone calls, but after 3-5 minutes of inactivity, the MP790 will suspend.
This cause my phone out of coverage.

I need an utility or a registry setting to disable suspend during battery operation.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Might you remind me what version of CE the 790 has? Because CE 2.11 had an update...Have you tried just tapping on the screen every few minutes? A hassle, but I remember having to do that on my old Mac SE's to stop the screensaver from coming up and crashing some programs. A hassle, yes, but it works. Anyone hopefully have better ideas?

PS, wasn't the fact that it was posted in the HPC2000 forum a bit of a hint.

Sergicchio,

The only way I know is to do it on a global level.
You can do this using a registry hack -
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

Change "BattPowerOff" to a data value of 0.
Then soft reset.

The device will no longer auto suspend on battery.

Do likewise for ExtPowerOff to modify the AC setting. All values are in seconds.

Or you can try the "door stop" approach...
Just leave MediaPlayer running

I have tried to set 0 value into the registry key "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" and its works very fine.
The suspend on battery power is deactivated.
Now I can use my MobilePro also like a Cellular Phone with my Aircard 750.
Thank you very much for your help!

Cool. Does it turn off the screen tho? I mean it could save you power.

Don't forget to come back and tell us how it works out with that setup. I'd imagine battery life could be a problem. And I have no idea how the card's utilities deal with voice calls.

Well, I'll try to check battery life with this configuration.

My setup is:
Nec MobilePro 790 HPC2000,
LCD is off when lid is closed,
Sierra Wireless Aircard 750.

I'll full charge the battery and I'll want to check how long the battery works with the lcd backlight off but the Aircard active and connected to a GSM network, without making any phone call.
After that, with a full charged battery, I'll want to check how long the battery works with an active phone call, with lcd backlight on.
I'll post a results ASAP.
Thx.

Next month I'll want to replace my 790 with a MP900 or a MP900c unit.
Is it a good idea or not?

I use StayAlive.
It´s a simply program to maintain the HPC on.
I used with Aircard 750 and ViaMichelin too.
