two computer questions. [link to this post] Edit Reply
1) Lately my PC fails to shut down using the Windows command. Most of the time it freezes. How can I figure out what's causing it and how do I fix it?
2)I'm looking to buy an LCD display. I've seen the cheapest have a spec of "16 or 12ms". I think that's some sort of delay. Would such delay make them unfit for gaming?
Thanks in advance.

| Little more info required here, Windows version and what command you refer to would be good.
shutdown.exe or start > shut down > Shut down
ms values (milliseconds) are response times. In reality it is the time that each pixel in the LCD takes to respond to a change of state - i.e. change in colour. The lower the value, the faster the screen, therefore better for high frame rate gaming.

| ok...I have Windows XP. I used the Shutdown button.
For a while after the problem appeared I could use the Logoff button and it would shut off but now that doesn't work either.

| Oh, shutdown issues are usually HAL related.
Hit Windows update, ensure you have SP2 and all updates.
start > run > chkdsk c: /f /r
Say Y to all questions and reboot the PC.
That is a first step, nothing more.
