CF cards have a shared number of read/writes, they are not seperate. Yeah, reading is just as harmful as writing. You will most likely see problems with those embedded systems in under a year.

According to C:Amie, it is shared. Perhaps we should ask him?

Back on the first question... After much discussion on the JLime site we decided that: 128MB should be sufficent for use as a PDA and to be able to run Opie. 256MB for users who want more stuff installed, such as full X desktop systems or for simple development. 512MB or bigger for on device development, or possibly as a media center (lots of music).

There was also some debate on what type of storage. Microdrives are good for development, since they dont suffer from repeated reading/writing as much as compact flash cards do. Compact flash is good for fair usage, since they are cheap and will survive a resonable amount of usage.

I remember reading about this a while ago. Reading isnt as harmful, but does still have some effect on the cards lifetime iirc.

TTL? Not heard that before... Time-to-live?

I've used a 128MB card to run Linux on a different PDA and its still going after 4 years, so it cant be that bad.

I've recently had problems with my WIFI router and the term just came to my mind And well, if it is more than 4 years then it doesn't seem to be a problem, though. Thanks for a prompt answer.

128mb is enough for plenty, maybe even X. And enough with the irritating wording.

What you will need is easy to calculate. Take what you buy (= X) and add 1MB, you will never need more than that.
