I have a thought but was wondering if anyone else has tried it.

IIRC the mp800 has a memory board and the 790 has a place to plug a board in.

So has anyone tried a mp800 ram board in a 790?

I too was pondering this same question. i have a ram daughterboard from a 780. When I put it in my 790 nothng happens, but I was thinking maybe there was a reg edit or other hack that would allow the device to use the ram?>?? I would love 50% more ram....... Is this possible at all?? anyone??

Ok so this is interesting. When I put a 780 rom into a 790 and also put the ram chip from the 780 in my 790-- I get 48MB of ram showing up . So the 780 rom WILL read the 32 on the Motherboard as well as the 16 in the expansion slot. So why won't the 790 rom do the same thing??

Rich, you can't be serious. the 790 has 32mb ram, the 16 mb is flash ROM. that isn't ram

790HPC, does control panel / system tell you so??? i.e. can you allocate, say, 40 MB to run programs? any screenshots?!

I know Cmonex, but that is what I am assuming he/she was talking about...confusing the flash ROM with the standard RAM, adding them together thinking it was all volitile storage. How else could you come up with the number 48?

I've put in a 780 RAM chip in the 790 numerous times and never had it show up at all, although I never put in the 780 ROM chip as well. I am assuming that the 780 ROM chip recognizes the 16 mb of flash ROM on the 790 MB as available RAM...but I don't know. Guess I need to pick up a 790 and try.

Yes I can allocate over 40mb of ram-- The key is to pull the Rom, then put the ram and rom back in hit reset and you should be fine.

One more thing --*** This is common sense, but make sure to remove your battery before pulling any rom or ram chips***

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

edit: OH wait something isn't quite right!

why do you have 41278 mb on the first one, and why 49056 on the second? this doesn't make sense

Ohhh, how exciting 790HPC. I'm confused again however. What are the two screenshots. One shows 41248 total ram and the other is 49056.

Are they both on your 790?
Are they both with the 790 rom chip?

And one last question...are you able to soft reset the device and still keep the memory?

Rich

That first one is odd, it implies 32 + 8

Under 2.11 a bug means that you can't safely allocate more than 16MB to the system.
The key is whether you can address it. Try dropping a 32MB file into RAM and see if the system maintains stability. If it doesn't, I'd hasten to suggest that there is an addressing fault. If you can... :S

so these screenshots are from hpc2000.
the strange thing: one of the pics say 4:39 for the time the other says 4:40 and everything is still installed. so he couldn't possibly have done a hard reset (reinstallign rom / ram chips). maybe a soft reset? (or restoring from backup, erm.. or just readjusting the clock but still this is interesting)

better to keep the 32mb file a little under 32, right? rather than over that

first pic is around 40,2 MB... second is around 47,9... and allocated program RAM is the exact same amount. hrm

I was in ahurry when I posted those screenshots and didn't even notice the ram was different. Every time I check it, now it adds up to 48, Only thing I can think of, is I had just installed the screenshot program? I also moved the slider on the ram bar, then moved the window so the mobilepro icon would show up and maybe it hadn't updated fully?? But yes it does have 48 MB ram, even after a reset..
