I was in ahurry when I posted those screenshots and didn't even notice the ram was different. Every time I check it, now it adds up to 48, Only thing I can think of, is I had just installed the screenshot program? I also moved the slider on the ram bar, then moved the window so the mobilepro icon would show up and maybe it hadn't updated fully?? But yes it does have 48 MB ram, even after a reset..

no, it cant be the screenshot program. installing an app shouldnt change the total RAM amount.

can you try this please: copy two 20 MB (or even 16MB is enough!) files into your RAM? don't try one single 32 MB, it didn't work for me on a genuine 64mb 728...
of course first allocate a little more than 40 mb free ram for storage

please please and let us know the results.

I second what cmonex said, the RAM total is identified when the system hard resets, it can't just change unless there is a fault.

Cmonex, why didn't the 32 work? I've never had issues with large files before.

i don't know. i tried several times... first had 35 MB available (as free storage ram) then 50 MB and still didn't work... copy was from a CF card. a 16MB one immediately worked
did you ever copy 32 mb's successfully?

I'm not sure if they were *exactly* 32MB, but I've had some pretty big RAM filling video files on my H/PC's, and never noticed any problems. I've also dumped down large image files too.
I'll try something scientific in the future. :S

Something tells me we should change the name of this thread to "Battering RAM."

well until you asked i never had problems but never copied 32mbs either. guess thats your case too. now i'm disappointed in you to have stated something such unscientific
those image files were around 20mb anyway. pocketdvd's largest video file again around 20.

Huh?
I'm not talking about Windows CE image files and I have a lot of video files converted and not converted by DC in a multitude of file sizes from between 2 meg up to 1gig.

There is a nice 39Meg mpeg sitting on my FTP server, the next time I have a 64+ device, I'll drop it over.

As you can see, by looking at the first screenshot, I have over 32MB in my documents folder and in the second screenshot you can see I was able to allocate and use over 32MB of RAM for storage. Now will someone else give this a try and post results. -- remember to pull the ROM first, then put in the RAM, then replace ROM and do a reset.

Very Nice!

It can't be striping the flash area and main RAM though , you must genuinely have 48 on chip O.o

Amazingly, 16MB RAM upgrades for the 790 are now available on eBay. Item number 9735992804. I just ordered one, so when I receive it, I'll let you all know if all goes well.

That is simply a 780 ram module. I compared it to mine and I am sure it is simply a 780 ram chip. Mine says "G7DVT" on the top left which is the same. Also vertically on the right hand side of the board it says "A1B2" which also matches. And well since NEC never sold upgrade chips that has to be a 780 ram chip. Nothing like finding out a new feature of device when it's already 6 years old!

I'm sure you're right about it being 780 module--I already knew that NEC never made available a RAM upgrade for the 790, although I was never 100% sure since the slot is so obviously asking for one.

What amazes me is how your discovery went from these boards to something available on eBay as quickly as it did--I have no doubt the seller is an active member here.
