I'm not gonna spend too much time trying to get it to connect to the computer- I'm using a friend's computer (besides, her computer's got LOADS of problems and is DESPERATELY in need of a clean install)!
When I have the money to buy a computer, THEN I'll muck around until I get it working... |

| Might I suggest you try the demo of Microsoft virtual PC with Windows 95 on it, you can install it then onto Windows XP - it has access to the COM ports allowing you to install H/PC Explorer properly.
You can then see if new hardware will really solve the problem, potentially saving you money, and from having to find space for an elderly computer.

* Hewlett Packard Jornada 728; Windows CE 3.0 ("Handheld PC 2000"
That's a pretty big list and with my small income will take me a long time to complete, but I'll get there; eventually I want to have the leading device from EVERY generation and type of Windows CE, including Pocket PCs, Auto PCs and others...
@ Cmonex,
Windows CE 2.0 was a BIG, BIG improvement on Windows CE 1.0 (especially in the best CE2 devices, such as the 660LX Palmtop PC )!
your list is impressive already.. if you have all of them - don't you? |
|
|
|
| Nah, I've had most of them at one time or another, but at the moment I have only my 320LX Palmtop PC and an iPAQ h5550 Pocket PC.
Hopefully I'll have completed that list by the end of the year.
When I eventually buy one, I'll be using the Jornada 728 as my primary portable computing device, giving it a 5+GB of storage, bluetooth and Wi-Fi; I'm especially looking forward to the purchase of this as I never had the pleasure of owning a 728... |

| That Virtual PC looks like a good idea.
I think I'll add it to my bookmarks... |

| MSVPC was the best £70 I've spent in a long time given the ammount of testing I have to do for running this site it saves messing around with dual boots, prolonged periods of down time while you install OS's, quick recovery and of course having to have a building full of computers to get work done. I've less physical computers running now having got VPC going than I have at any point in the last 6 years.
My electicity provider isn't all that happy now though
If you download the 45 day trial, do install SP1 as it adds new features. |

| Well at some point I've had ALL of Hewlett Packard's Handheld PCs, but I've never owned a Jornada 72x as like many people, Microsoft convinced me that the Pocket PC was a better platform to do my work on...
After using only Pocket PCs for some time now, I can see that in some respects they ARE better, but between the two, I think I prefer the Handheld PC form, despite the extra size and weight...

Alas as the 320 is a CE 1 device I'm afraid that the news is you cannot sync both simultaniously. With the CE2 ROM update there wouldn't be a problem. However CE1 isn't supported by ActiveSync (the Axim, and anything running CE2.0 and higher's sync client ). Because both need to spool the same resources generally it's not a good idea to try and run both.
Now, having said that I'm basing my experiences on tests done against two serial devices and not a serial and a USB device. Now, I still don't think it'll behave properly but... If you install AcitveSync 3.7.1 first and then H/PC Explorer 1.1 (both available from Sync Software in the navigation above ) you may have a chance.
With a CE 1 device you will need to follow our connection guide which can be found here:

I too always thought the Pocket PC was better, but after I got my PPC, I had my heart set on a Jornada 728 at the time too. Now it has taken 3 years to get one, just when I forgot about it and I am rather pleased with it!
Now I ammend my comment Pocket PC's are the best thing since sliced breadhandheld PCs are WAY better than Pocket PC's in my humble opinion! Easier to type on, easier to read, easier to use, easier to expand, eaiser to trash , easier to repair, easier to god knows what else!
